COLLAGE WORKSHOPS with


Explore composition and the creation of a personal visual vocabulary with internationally-known artist, Jonathan Talbot. Enjoy opportunities for new spontaneity as you learn his exciting collage technique that eliminates liquid adhesives from the collage-making process. Other subjects covered include the"paperless" transfer of printed and photocopied images, tissue overlays, permanency of materials, preparation of substrates, sources of tools and materials, presentation and framing of finished works, and more. The Morris Museum of Arts and Sciences, Marlboro College, The New Jersey Center for Visual Arts, Kansas State University, The Connecticut Graphic Arts Center, Sacred Heart University, The Mendocino Art Center, Esalen, and Mutual Benefit Life, Inc. are just a few of the many institutions which have hosted past Talbot Workshops and Demonstrations.

WARWICK, NY - 3-DAY PRESIDENT'S WEEKEND STUDIO WORKSHOP: COLLAGE TECHNIQUES & CREATIVE EXPLORATION / in the Artist's Studio: Join us in Warwick, NY for this 3-day extended weekend workshop in the artist's studio. Enjoy new opportunities for spontaniety as you learn how to eliminate liquid adhesives from the collage-assembly process. As we explore composition and refine our personal visual vocabularies we will reflect on past successes and failures, revise our individual goals, and make concrete and specific plans for future projects. ///// From the drafting of a group mission statement to the collecting of works for a final critique, this four-day intensive will be filled with challenging activities designed to increase our technical knowledge, broaden the scope of our vision, and empower our creative inspiration as we produce exciting new works. By examining our responses to a variety of mediums we will find new insights into our individual creative efforts and discover new perspectives which will allow us to see our works and their evolution more clearly.///// Subjects for investigation include (but are not limited to) Acquiring Visual Language Skills, Collage without Liquid Adhesives, Color Theory, The Grammar of Visual Language, Paperless Image Transfer, The Mathematics of Composition, Making Prints from Paintings & Collages, Finding the Muse, The Artist and Society, Framing and Presentation of Finished Works, and more.. September 26, 27, 28, 2008 JUNCTION CITY, OR: COLLAGE TECHNIQUES & CREATIVE EXPLORATION 2008 / Take a break and enjoy the animals and the mountain views during this three-day workshop which will be held at the farm of Jonathan's friend Marge Dillon near Junction City, OR which is just north of Eugene and less than two-hours south of Portland. Marge has a large barn (at left rear in photo at right) which has been converted to studio space so we will have plenty of room. During our time together we will explore composition and the creation of a personal visual vocabulary while we enjoy new opportunities for spontaneity as we learn how to eliminate liquid adhesives from the collage-assembly process. Other subjects to be covered include "Getting Started," Accessing our Creative Energies, "Paperless" Transfer of Printed and Photocopied Images, Incorporation of Computer-generated images into traditional collage, Preserving Found Materials, Preparation of Substrates, Sources of Tools and Materials, Presentation and Framing of Finished Works, and whatever else is requested by the participants. Workshop Hours: 9:30 AM - 5:30 PM with optional evening hours on Friday and Saturday at no extra cost. Three-Day Workshop Fee: $365. Materials Fee: $25. October 11, 2008 BAINBRIDGE ISLAND, WA - BAINBRIDGE ARTS & CRAFTS: DANCING WITH DESIGN / During this one-day workshop we will "free-up" our approach to composition by using collage to explore a variety of the aspects of design. Included will be intellectual, intuitive, and kinesthetic approaches to line, shape, color (including hue, value, and intensity), texture, movement, rhythm, relativity, interest, and unity. Most of the day will be devoted to hands-on interactive compositional exercises but each participant will create at least one finished work as well. Location: Creativity Center, Bainbridge Island.   JONATHAN TALBOT: A BRIEF BIOGRAPHY:

The works of artist Jonathan Talbot have been exhibited at The National Academy and the Museum of Modern Art in New York, have represented the U.S. overseas in exhibitions sponsored by the State Department and the Smithsonian Institution, and are included in museum collections in U.S. and Europe. Talbot's works include oils, watercolors, etchings, collages, and multi-dimensional collage-constructions. Among the public collections holding Talbot works are The Newark Museum, The Smith College Museum, The Everhart Museum, The Byer Museum, The Free Library of Philadelphia, The San Francisco Academy of Art, Fairleigh Dickinson University, The Provincetown Historical Society, and the Toronto Central Library. Talbot maintains his studio in Warwick, NY where he lives with his wife Marsha. They are the parents of two children: a daughter, Loren, and a son, Garret. For additonal information Click Here
