Inspired by 19th & 20th century bricks which were often marked with the names or initials of their makers, the intention of "Border Wall Bricks" is to reveal some of the impulses, emotions, and actions which contributed to the wall that was being built along the southern border of the United States at the time these bricks were created.
Made of real ceramic brick, these bricks are both hard and hard-hearted.
"Border Wall Bricks" is an evolving initiative of the artist.
"Border Wall Bricks" have been exhibited in a traveling exhibition organized by
Artists For Social Justice 2020, led by
Virginia Mallon. Locations included The Kupferberg Center for the Arts, Queens College,
New York, NY (virtual); ARC Gallery,
Chicago, IL (virtual); and The University of Southern Indiana's New Harmony Gallery in
New Harmony, IN (pending).
"Border Wall Bricks" has also been exhibited virtually as part of
The Social Distancing Festival organized by
Nick Green of
Toronto, Canada.
Groups of "Border Wall Bricks" are available on loan at no charge for exhibitions in your museum, art space, traveling exhibition, or gallery. They may be arranged in a variety of configurations and may be displayed on the floor, on pedestals, or on shelves.
