Abilene / 2006

Following up my keynote address at the 2006 Texas Art Education Association Conference in Fort Worth in November of 2006 I was invited by Marianne Wood of the Center for Contemporary Arts to visit Abilene, TX. While I was there, Marianne introduced me to many folks. In addition to the CCA, I visted The Grace Museum, Frontier Texas, and the National Center for Children's Illustrated Literature.
One of the highlights of my visit was a dinner at which I met a number of folks in the Abilene art scene. Pictured above are (left to right) Larry Millar, art teacher at Abilene's Cooper H. S.; Kathie Walker-Millar, head of the McMurry University Art Faculty; "Tootsie" Nichols, portrait painter; George Nichols, supporter of the arts, Tony Berry, ceramic artist, Kim Berry, Director of the Center for Contemporary Art, Jeremy Christopher, middle-school art teacher in Abilene, myself, and Ruth Jackson, Art Center member and ArtReach teacher. Photo by Marianne Wood.		During the dinner Tootsie Nichols did a quick sketch of me which she gave me as a souvenir.
