THE VERONA

My sailing experiences during the 50s and 60s became the basis for many nautical paintings and collages. Below are some pictures of the Verona, the barquentine on which I sailed out of Marseille in 1960. At that time the Verona was owned by Mrs. Rogers of Rogers Diamond Mines in South Africa and captained by Captain Kemp. The crew of six (all but myself were from Majorca) handled 12,500 square feet of sail and the auxiliary engines, a difficult task at best. I understand that the Verona sank in the Aegean in 1967.
