Artist's comments: In Anima Captiva a female spirit is held captive in a rubbish-strewn dungeon. Part angel, part vixen, part harpy, and part mother, the anima is a shape-changer and we see her in the midst of transforming herself. Her diminutive jailer, who is tormenting her with a ladder-like pole, comes to us courtesy of Rembrandt's The Night Watch. Only the presence of the easel in the background reveals that the dungeon is really the artist's studio. Based on an earlier collage. |
